This session will discuss the value of standardized developmental screening of young children in identifying physical, cognitive, and emotional health issues that may go undetected by health care providers, parents, and other caregivers. It will also discuss strategies to enhance developmental screening of young children and identify criteria and processes for recommending developmental screening instruments. The session will also discuss approaches to identify and evaluate strategies to increase communication between parents, health care providers, and child care providers. | |||
Learning Objectives: 1. Understand the nature of the relationship between recurrent otitis media and developmental delays; 2. Apply a telephone survey to estimate the prevalence of children at risk for developmental problems. 3. Understand the breadth of Universal Newborn Hearing Screening and Intervention program models 4. Understand barriers to follow-up and identify strategies for overcoming these barriers | |||
