For Everything Else There's....Cost and Financing of Care for CYSHCN
While medical debt has received substantial attention in the media, little note has been paid to debt and related hardship among families of children and youth with special health care needs. In fact, financial hardship is endemic among families of chidlren with chronic conditions and disabilities. This session will introduce particpants to the nature and causes of family medical debt. It will go on to address the cost of children's care. Two presentations will then address strategies to enhance financing of care for CYSHCN, the first, focusing specifically on SCIHP, the second looking broadly at financing innovations across states.
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to: Particpants will be able to: Characterize the nature, extent and 3 causes of medical debt among families of CYSHCN; Analyze elements of cost of care for CYSHCN; Identify innovative practices within SCHIP and other funding mechanisms to maximize access to and quality of care for CYSHCN.
