This session focuses on the epidemiology of infectious diseases, which include water borne and other real-time disease surveillance, influenza, and non-bacterial diarrhea. There will also be a discussion of sharing information during a public health emergency. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Dicuss whether a provincial or territorial government can disclose personal information to another Canadian jurstiction's government without an individual's consent during a public health emergency 2. Describe different types of surveillance systems used to monitor for waterborne disease in a large metropolitan area 3. Describe how chief complaints and diagnosis codes are used to detect disease alert signals in the AHEDD syndromic surveillance system 4. Identify season trends in non-pandemic influenza 5. Describe possible modes of viral transmission and potential interventions to reduce the incidence of viral disease in out-of-home care | |||
