This interesting session will focus on surveillance issues related to infectious diseases. Topics to be discussed include West Nile virus, a gastrointestinal outbreak of E. coli and cutaneous leishmaniasis. One presentation will focus on the use of an interactive voice response system for persons under quarantine. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Describe the use of GIS in West Nile virus surveillance and mosquito control 2. Evaluate the economic effectiveness of syndromic surveillance systems using a novel real options approach 3. Identify key elements of long-term shelter surveillance design and management 4. Evaluate the effectiveness of a number of strategies for the prevention of cutaneous leishmaniasis 5. Describe the Interactive Voice Response system and how it could be used for quarantine and isolation compliance monitoring | |||
