This session will focus on the epidemiology of illness and injury in the workforce. Topics to be discussed include musculoskeletal disorders in home care workers, occupational predictors of smoking in transit operators, alcohol consumption measurement issues in farm workers, chronic shoulder disorder and work-related physical loading, and injuries in young workers. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Describe occupational factors that put home care workers at risk for musculoskeletal disorders 2. Describe the estimated effect of occupational factors on smoking among urban transit operators 3. Select an appropriate metric for measurement of alcohol consumption in occupational epidemiology studies 4. Recognize the important role of work-related physical loading regarding the health of the shoulder joint 5. Discuss recent trends in young workers' injuries | |||
