This session swill focus on the surveillance of behaviors and chronic diseases. Included in this sessions are the following: a discussion of asthma prevalence in preschool children, the obesity epidemic as a precursor to the metabolic disordere epidemic, chronic disease behaviors in minority populations in the US, as well as the use of BRFSS data for estimating chronic disease prevalence. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Describe the demographic characteristics, prevalence of asthma, asthma morbidity and access to health care in subsidized preschools in three NYC neighborhoods 2. Identify the current trends of obesity, hypocholesterolemia and diabetes in a European general population 3. Describe and discuss patterns and correlates of diabetes-related behavioral and health status for African American and Latino persons 4. Define the public health issues related to a lack of health care access, secondary to lack of health fcare insurance and Hispanic ethnicity | |||
