This session looks at various services, activities, and programs used in homeless settings for the benefit of individuals who are homeless as well as the programs that serve them. Topics include: caring for the terminally ill in a respite care setting; integrating HIV prevention counseling services in a food bank program; integrating HIV rapid testing in an HIV prevention program; implementing Homeless Management Information Systems (HMIS); and increasing knowledge and broadening awareness about homeless issues. Presenters address the effect of these activities on health outcomes, quality of life, client retention, and potential policy interventions. The efficacy and challenges of these activities, including quality assurance, outreach, and client retention, are discussed. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, participants in this session will be able to: 1. List five services that support the health of individuals experiencing homelessness. 2. Identify key components of each of these services. 3. Articulate ways in which the services are effective in improving the health status of homeless individuals. | |||
