Sexuality education like most health education programs designed to influence health behavior has many variables that affect success of any program. This session will address the need to document with effective research what sexuality education is impacting. This will enable future programs to replicate those factors shown to be successful. With this in mind, one presentation will identify characteristics of an effective HIV/STI/pregnancy prevention program for middle school students. Parent attitude toward adolescent sexual behavior, motivation to use birth control, self efficacy and sex education in terms of gender and race/ethnicity are suggested as important for formulating successful programs. And finally, professional preparation and development are addressed so these programs can be developed and delivered to address important variables by knowledgeable and effective sexuality educators. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1.
