Federal allocations for abstinence-only sexuality education program have been in the hundreds of millions of dollars in the last several years but do these programs work? This session will present some findings from three different programs. Results from both the middle and high school programs of Texas Title V funded abstinence programs will be presented. The first year findings of the Girls Shape the Future program will be presented. This program is a pregnancy prevention program with data reported from 5 nationwide sites. The Worth the Wait program was taught in public schools to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders from urban and rural areas of South Central New York. Results will be reported on the likelihood of participants to abstained from sexual intercourse as well as other data. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. identify the purpose and procedures employed in the evaluation of the abstitence-only sexuality education programs presented. 2. List the impact, if any, of these programs on identified variables of the students. 3. Determine the use of the program evaluation results for future sexuality education programs | |||
