Public health researchers recognize the need to identify disparities in health outcomes experienced by immigrant populations and barriers which limit immigrants’ access to appropriate health care. Speakers in this session will discuss the assumptions and evidence relating to the "Immigrant Health Paradox" for first and second generation Hispanic females and for members of a low-income community in Kansas, health care access and utilization for immigrant children with asthma, the need for proper screening and treatment of immigrant children for Hepatitis B and the mental health effects of immigration from and repatriation to Vietnam. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) will be able to: 1. compare the health outcomes of immigrant and native born adults and children; 2. identify barriers to health care access and utilization for immigrant adults and children; 3. describe mental and physical effects of migration and repatriation. | |||
