This session will present health planning and policy development initiatives by five unique partnerships between physicians and community advocacy organizations addressing systemic inequalities affecting clinicians’ patients and communities. Case studies will set the stage for broader discussion of advocacy and civic engagement as professional values for clinicians and will demonstrate models that allow policy organizations to involve clinicians in their work | |||
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to: 1) Recognize the advocacy potential of clinicians in health and social policy and planning efforts 2) Construct an argument on how advocacy functions as a professional value for clinicians 3) Discuss policy and planning efforts in Medicaid managed care prescription drug access, addressing youth violence, creating nurse visitation programs, creating supportive housing, and building quality early education programs for children | |||
