CDC is engaging the public health community, affiliated groups from many sectors, and the public as the agency establishes objectives for its Health Protection Goals. Detailed information about the CDC goals and objectives can be found at http://www.cdc.gov/osi/goals/workshopPartners.html. Recently, CDC developed “starter” objectives for each of its four overarching goals—people, places, preparedness, and global. CDC, working with Partnership for Prevention, state and local health agencies, and with other organizations, created several opportunities for partner organizations and the public to provide input on the objectives. A Partners’ Task Force on Objectives, made up of leaders from multiple sectors, has provided perspective and insight to the process and will consolidate input into a report to CDC. Presenters in the first half of this session will: Discuss current trends influencing CDC to seek stakeholder and public engagement in the agency’s priority setting; Briefly describe the methods and key activities used to obtain stakeholder and community-based comment; and Summarize insights from several “public engagements”. The second half of the session will be devoted to obtaining reactions from attendees to the session to the information presented in order to add richness and depth to interpretation.
Learning Objectives: Session participants will be able to describe CDC’s goal action planning process. Session participants will understand why and how CDC is seeking public engagement. Session participants will have the opportunity to contribute to the interpretation of information gathered during the public engagement process.
