This session presents relevant and timely information on the current issues facing the public health workforce, such as workforce strategies, demographics, and emerging professional areas. Presenters will describe resources that support state public health agencies as they work to maintain a fully trained and competent workforce. This session will feature the preliminary survey findings updating the Public Health Workers Shortage Report, an overview of efforts to enumerate the public health workforce, and a succession planning resource guide that focuses on maintaining leadership continuity. Particular emphasis will be given to the methodology, findings, and lessons learned for these three critical products. | |||
Learning Objectives: To identify professional areas of public health shortage. To define succession planning and effective practices. To understand strategies in enumeration of the public health workforce, highlighting the professions of public health informatics and epidemiology. To articulate the underlying issues related with public health workforce recruitment and retention initiatives. | |||
