A Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) initiative, the Pipeline, Profession & Practice: Community-Based Dental Education program (Pipeline program) is the largest philanthropic investment in oral health in two decades. Launched in 2002, this five–year program was designed to help increase access to dental care for underserved populations through community-based clinical education programs, recruitment and retention of underrepresented minority (URM) and low-income students, and cultural competency training. Speakers from the RWJF, the Pipeline National Program office and Pipeline dental schools will discuss the background of the program, share outcomes and lessons learned, and explore future directions.
Learning Objectives: 1. Discuss the rationale, strategy and implementation of the Pipeline program. 2. Present program outcomes in terms of community-based dental education, recruitment of URM and low income students, and cultural competency training. 3. Discuss future efforts to advance Pipeline program objectives.
