Epidemiology of Injury
This session will focus on the epidemiology of injury. Specific presentations will cover topics such as : human rights abuses in Haiti, youth sport injuries in the US, motor vehicle crash deaths in teens/young adults, seat belt use by Hispanic ethnic subtype, fall injury in adults age 65 and older, and suicide in Canada.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Describe the frequency and severity of human rights abuses in Port-au-Prince, Haiti 2. Describe injury patterns among pediatric participants of ice hockey, lacrosse, and field hockey 3. Recognize regional and racial/ethnic disparities in motor vehicle deaths for young drivers in North Carolina 4. Explain how motor vehicle crash mortality rates differ by Hispanic ethnicity 5. Describe the demographic and health characteristics of older adults who experienced a fall injury during the past 3 months 6. Describe patterns of suicide mortality in Newfoundland and Labrador
