HIV/AIDS and Injection Drug-Using Communities
Continued HIV incidence among injection drug users is a priority issue for the public health system. This session will provide an update on critical research conducted with injection drug users and describe the efficacy of innovative interventions to reduce HIV incidence among this community.
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to: 1. Describe emerging trends that continue to facilitate HIV incidence among injection drug users in the U.S. and abroad. 2. Describe 3 strategies for effectively engaging this community in HIV-prevention interventions. 3. Describe 3 common elements to interventions that have demonstrated efficacy with regard to HIV-related behavioral change among injection drug users.
