Obesity Prevention in Youth
Among preventable causes of death, poor diet and physical inactivity account for an estimated 300,000 deaths per year. For proper growth and development and to prevent health problems, young people should adopt the behaviors of healthy eating and physical activity early in life. This session will include presentations that discuss perceptions related to and innovative programs designed to improve nutrition, decrease obesity, increase physical activity.
Learning Objectives: At the end of the session, participants will be able to: 1. Identify community-based opportunities and resources for obesity-related health education and outreach in youth. 2. Articulate age and gender-related differences in obesity-related behaviors. 3. Discuss parental influences on self-perception of weight status of youth.
