Disparities in health outcomes create important challenges for health promotion. The speakers in this session will discuss various programs that address health disparities and involve communities in preventive strategies. Additionally, speakers will address gaining a better understanding of health disparities through increased research and the addition of a health disparity course to the public health core curriculum. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Recognize the adverse effects of health disparities and discuss the underlying social, cultural, policy, environmental, and behavioral determinants. 2. Recommend strategies for engaging community stakeholders and policy makers in addressing health disparities. 3. Discuss possible new initiatives designed to increase our understanding of racial and ethnic disparities. | |||
