The lack of physical activity and poor dietary habits in many citizens has become an increasingly important cause for concern. These behavioral risk factors in minority populations are the focus of this session. The speakers in this session will discuss perceptions related to physical activity and nutrition, interventions designed to increase physical activity and nutrition, and approaches to overcoming barriers (that may be present for members of minority groups) to physical activity and healthy eating. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Discuss the relationship between race/culture and physical activity participation. 2. Describe promising approaches to overcoming barriers for gaining access into minority and low income communities. 3. Create effective interventions that promote positive health behavior change in members of minority groups. | |||
