Recent stories in the media have focused attention on immigrants, both documented and undocumented. Immigrants’ health rights are the focus of this session. Presenters will discuss the legal and human rights issues that must be understood in any dialogue about immigrant health. Presenters will also discuss the barriers to access that immigrants perceive and experience when seeking healthcare. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Recognize the diversity of immigration categories in order to understand the many facets of immigration status. 2. Identify various requirements at state and local levels that directly affect immigrant rights to health services. 3. Describe various social and system constraints on immigrants that are barriers to entering the public health and medical care systems. | |||
