Community members, policymakers, and key informants are accepted partners in developing community health programs. The speakers in this session will describe their approaches to involving community members in their efforts to improve the health of the community through obesity prevention and teen mortality reduction. The session will also include discussions of: Training firefighters in communicable disease knowledge, bringing rural communities together through technology, and developing community- driven health planning in one state. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Recognize the importance of community-driven health planning as a core process for public health systems. 2. Identify barriers to effective communication and collaboration experienced by community-based public health programs. 3. Discuss strategies and steps for coalition building and the multi-level approach to community change. | |||
