This session focuses on the need for health educators to become more knowledgeable about the link between genetics and disease. Presenters in this session will discuss not only the public’s knowledge about genetics and disease, but also health educator’s perception of barriers to adopting genomic competencies. Speakers will also discuss Fragile X carriers and Hs-CRP testing. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Describe women’s attitudes towards carrier testing for specific genetic disorders 2. Understand how state-specific BRFSS questions can be used to evaluate genetics awareness. 3. Identify health educators’ perceptions of barriers to adopting genomic competencies into public health practice. | |||
