Strategies in Obesity Prevention for Children
Among preventable causes of death, poor diet and physical inactivity account for an estimated 300,000 deaths per year. Developing good health behaviors in our youth in the area of physical activity and nutrition is the focus of this session. This session will include presentations describing programs designed for preschool children, mothers and daughters, community health center clients, and elementary school children.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Identify key variables related to healthy eating behavior in children. 2. Describe childhood obesity-related health disparities among patients at community health centers. 3. Recognize the need for early obesity prevention efforts with children.
