Science-Based Approaches to Sexual Health Programming
This session focuses on the role of science in sexual health education. Using a science-based approach as a backdrop, speakers will discuss such topics as the impact of household income on sexual behavior in youth and the impact of abstinence-based school sex education on adolescent behavior. The session will also address STI reporting and one program designed to collect information about risk behavior among college students.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1.Identify specific youth assets associated with a reduction in youth sexual behavior for all youth irrespective of household income. 2.Assess the effectiveness of abstinence-based school sex education programs versus school sex education programs that teach safe sex. 3.Describe one use of the Internet to improve screening for STIs in the general public and to communicate health risks.
