Research has shown that experiencing trauma such as child abuse or neglect, homelessness, or extreme poverty or witnessing domestic violence may cause toxic stress, a condition that has short- and long-term implications for rain development. This session will describe the achievements and the difficulties experienced by two programs that used Early Intervention services to attempt to reduce toxic stress and/or its consequences, one with children who had been maltreated and the other with homeless children. | |||
Learning Objectives: As a result of participation in this session, attendees should: - be able to describe how the new provisions of CAPTA and IDEA may impact certain groups of young children - be cognizant of potential barriers to the implementation of these mandates - be able to suggest ways to overcome these barriers. | |||
