Equitable access to quality care is essential if health is to be improved. Every individual has a basic right to receive quality care that meets their needs and also meets accepted standards of service. Currently, enhancing care quality is something that public health systems around the world strive for. In this session we look at quality of care issues from a selection of countries in Eastern Europe, Africa, and Asia. We will also hear about different approaches to enhancing care quality, particularly among private sector providers, including setting standards, using peer reviews, and franchising.
Learning Objectives: 1. Participants become familiar with current approaches for improving quality of care in both public and private services. 2. Participants understand recent applications of standard-setting, assessment, peer review, and franchising for improving quality of care.
