Financial barriers to access remain a significant problem for individuals world-wide. In the United States nearly 50 million individuals are without health care because they lack insurance. In Developing countries the problem is greater because financial barriers are compounded by access and social barriers. However, there are many innovative and hopeful examples of community-based health insurance that have been introduced on a local level that could be expanded to cover large populations and greatly reduce barriers to access. In this session we look at examples of community-based health insurance from Africa and Latin America and provide some significant lessons learned. | |||
