As the title of this session implies: Women's rights ARE human rights in the United States and throughout the world. However, the rights of women are frequently violated often resulting in poor health outcomes for women. The presenters in this session will discuss several aspects of women's/human rights violations, including sexual harassment, women who are pregnant in prison, racially biased punitive solutions to women who are substance abusers, and adolescent sex work.
Learning Objectives: By the end of the session, the participant will be able to (1) discuss examples of domestic and international violations of women's rights (women of all ages); (2) describe populations of women for whom violations of their rights are more common than others; and (3) articulate the health and policy implications of rights violations from a women's health perspective.
