Session: Reproductive Justice in the Gene Age
4258.0: Tuesday, November 07, 2006: 2:30 PM-4:00 PM
Oral
Reproductive Justice in the Gene Age
Genetic and reproductive technologies seem to hold great potential for women’s reproductive health choices. They have the potential, however, to impinge on women’s autonomy, deepen social inequalities, and commodify women’s bodies in an entirely new way. This panel will describe the new and emerging genetic and reproductive technologies, pose ethical questions, and suggest a reproductive justice approach to ensuring all women’s reproductive health and well being in the gene age.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant will be able to: 1. Identify the new and emerging genetic and reproductive technologies. 2. Understand the implications these technologies have for women’s health and reproductive rights. 3. Understand how a reproductive justice approach to the technologies will advance all women’s reproductive health and rights.
