For many people in the developing world, gaining access to services and being able to pay for those services represents significant barriers. It is a particularly difficult problem then if the medications that those individuals receive are of poor quality, being either ineffective or in some cases dangerous. In this session we look at different aspects of drug quality from the lessons learned in the West, to how those lessons have been applied in developing countries. We also look at one of the major impacts of poor quality medicines – antimicrobial resistance. The session wraps up with a complementary issue – how to ensure adequate adherence to treatment once it is prescribed. | |||
