This session will focus on some key areas of protecting children's environmental health. A Philadelphia curriculum focused on training Environmental Health Coaches will be presented along with qualitative and quantitative evaluations of the activities of current coaches will be presented. Environmental risk to children in child care centers and schools will be explored. Two innovative Oregon based programs for educating parents and childcare providers about protecting children from health threats will be discussed. A recycle, reuse, and reduce curriculum implemented in Oakland, California will be presented in the context of environmental and social justice education. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: Recognize gaps in environmental health research and services for children in and out of home settings; Describe 2 innovative programs to educate parents and childcare providers about practices that protect children from environmental health threats; Understand school-baes curricula that focuses on environmental health and social justice; Evaluate interactive theater techniques used in teaching children the benefits of clean environments and positive choices. | |||
