Asian Pacific Islander Caucus of APHA

Submit Abstract

The Asian Pacific Islander (API) Caucus for Public Health in official relations with the American Public Health Association (APHA) invites abstracts for the 2007 Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington, DC on November 3-7, 2007. We especially encourage submissions that focus on the theme, “Politics, Policy and Public Health” as they apply to Asian American and Pacific Islander (API) communities in the United States and associated territories. Although we will consider ALL submissions, we especially encourage work that focuses on:
  • Advocacy, activism, and social justice
  • Aging
  • Innovative research methodology (i.e. community-based participatory research (CBPR))
  • Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender populations
  • Pacific Islanders
  • Public health, politics and policy for APIs
  • South Asian Americans
  • Other public health issues of relevance to API communities
Deadline for abstract submission is February 14, 2007. Please indicate whether you prefer oral, poster or roundtable formats for your presentation. APHA has general guidelines for these three format options. There are limited slots available for oral presentations, so please give the Program Committee as many options as possible.

Student submissions are encouraged and should be noted on the application to be eligible for the Annual Award for the Best Student Abstract. Abstract submissions from or with community-based partners are also encouraged.

All abstracts will be reviewed based on the criteria of importance to API health, relevance to API Caucus priorities, originality, quality, clarity, and generalizability.

Submitters do not have to be members of APHA or of the API Caucus. Authors of accepted abstracts, however, must register for the APHA Annual Meeting and become an individual member of APHA and the API Caucus in order to present at the meeting. There is no cost to join the API Caucus; however, donations to offset administrative costs are appreciated. Further details on the API Caucus can be found at www.apicaucus.org.
