Psychiatric Epidemiology
In this session on psychiatric epidemiology, papers focus on depression and risk of dementia in China and the UK, predictors of depression in New York City, and nativity and depression among Mexican Americans, and risk of depression in youths in transition to adulthood. Additionally, a paper will present data on gender differences CHD risk among people with schizophrenia.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Identify a possible temporal relationship between syndromes of depression and dementia in older populations 2. Articulate how symptoms of depression are likely to change over a three year period amongst community based individuals 3. Identify the susceptible contextual factors of depression of youths aged 16-19 4. Discuss the impact of depressive symptoms on mortality among immigrant and native-born Mexican American populations. 5. Describe gender differences for CHD risk among patients with schizophrenia, and discuss implications for monitoring CHD among people with major mental illness
