Maternal Infant and Child Epidemiology
This session on maternal, infant and child epidemiology will include discussions of breastfeeding, maternal morbidity and mortality and stillbirth. Validation studies of birth certificate breast feeding data and near-miss maternal morbidity measures will be presented. Other presentations will focus on the relationship between advanced maternal age and incontinence, patterns of stillbirth and the distribution of infant formula packs at hospital discharge
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1) Assess validity of breastfeeding data found on birth certificate; 2) Identify age thresholds for risks of incontinence among women who deliver vaginally and by cesarean; 3) Describe the procedures used for validating a scoring system for near-miss maternal morbidity and for scoring clinical data; 4) Identify groups at increased risk for stillbirth in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada; 5) Describe patterns of distribution of formula discharge packs at the hospital and population level in 13 states plus DC.
