Promoting Healthy Lifestyles: Policy, Program, and Personal Recommendations for Reducing Cancer Risk
In 2006-2007, the Presidentís Cancer Panel held a series of meetings to examine the links between physical activity, obesity, nutrition, tobacco use and environmental tobacco smoke exposure and cancer risk. At these meetings, more than 40 experts from a variety of disciplines and organizations, both public and private, provided testimony to the Panel on current research findings and relevant community programs. This presentation of the Presidentís Cancer Panel will highlight its findings and recommendations made to the President in this yearís report, Promoting Healthy Lifestyles: Policy, Program and Personal Recommendations for Reducing Cancer Risk. This report highlights the continued research needs in the areas of obesity, physical activity, nutrition and tobacco and makes recommendations for action at the individual, community and policy levels
Learning Objectives: To provide participants with a greater understanding of the cancers linked to lifestyle, research needed to eliminate current knowledge gaps, and the Panelís recommendations for public, private, and personal initiatives that, if implemented, would help Americans reduce the incidence of cancer.
