Mismanagement of Health Care Services
Health care is relegated to a secondary place. A substantial chunk of financial resources is consumed by defense sector while some goes into undefined channels. The defense spending has forced the USA to apply huge spending cuts in health care services over the years for diversion into operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. In England there has been a sharp rise in government spending on health care. The greatest obstacles in the way of equitable and efficient medical care services have been the lack of responsibility on the part of the government and non-accountability for inadequate institutional medical service. In Australia there has been a study increase in budgetary allocation for health care but the country has suffered more from political, constitutional, and administrative disharmony between the Commonwealth and the State governments. In Malaysia despite great efforts by the government for evolving an equitable and affordable health care system there is shortage of health care personnel. Over the years there has been a gradual down slide in the budgetary allocations for social service sector including the health care and a gradual, albeit small, increase in the budgetary allocation for security sector, in line with the worldwide trend. The prioritization and the resource allocation for various sectors remains in the discretion of the government despite efforts of the human rights activists for the recognition of the right to health by nation states. Efforts are needed for improvement in health care services in order to cultivate healthy brains and healthy thinking.
Learning Objectives: budget allocation for health care on a down slide
