The National Environmental Health Performance Standards are the primary tool for assessing and building agency capacity to perform the ten essential environmental public health services. Following a period of field testing and revision, local and state environmental health agencies around the country have begun to use the NEPHPS to improve their capacity and their accountability to their communities. This session will recount the process and the outcomes experienced by several of these agencies in the field as they use this new national tool to improve the effectiveness of their agencies and to improve health and reduce risk in the communities they serve. Attendees will also gain valuable information on how to access the standards tool and helpful resources to support capacity improvement in their own agencies.

Learning Objectives:
1. Describe how the NEPHPS have been used to improve agency capacity at the local and state level 2. Describe some of the resources available to support improvement of agency capacity 3. List the results that agencies have achieved through implementing the NEPHPS.
