A common problem with people starting exercise programs is the occurrence of overuse injuries. Because most exercise programs involve weight bearing, foot and ankle injuries are commonplace. The authors have developed criteria by which these injuries can be prevented based on education of the patient and the fitness center staff.

1. Recognize the common foot and ankle overuse injuries 2. Identify improper training techniques 3. Develop a fitness program to decrease foot and ankle injury occurance
