Assistive technology can help increase the participation of people with disabilities in major life activities. As the cost of providing assistive technology continues to increase and reimbursement becomes more difficult, alternative ways of accessing equipment is needed. Reutilization of devices (this includes exchange, recycling and refurbishment services) is one alternative to providing assistive technology to people with disabilities in need. However, attention must be made to the service delivery of such programs. Often people who are provided equipment either abandon the equipment or misuse the equipment. To address these issues an emphasis needs to be placed on matching the proper equipment to the person, fitting the equipment to the person and training the person how to safely use the equipment. The Assistive Technology Reutilization Program for Independent Living, is collaboration between Paraquad (a Center for Independent Living) and the Washington University Program in Occupational Therapy. The goal of the Assistive Technology Reutilization Program for Independent Living is to increase access to assistive technology devices and assistive technology services for individuals with disabilities through the establishment of a model reutilization program for other Independent Living Centers and community organizations. This poster will describe the program, discussion of outcome measures in development that will be used to track the outcomes of this program, the number and type of equipment distributed through the program and the coordination of other organizations.

Learning Objectives:
1. Define what an assistive technology reutilization program encompasses. 2. Describe the benefits of distributing assistive technology through a reutilization program. 3. Identify the importance of tracking outcomes related to distributing reutilized assistive technology devices.
