163400 A Systematic Review of the Effectiveness of Community-Based Primary Health Care in Improving Child Health: Implications of the Review for UNICEF and Other Major Health Organizations

Monday, November 5, 2007: 1:30 PM

Rudolph Knippenberg, MD MPH , UNICEF, New York, NY
The data used and the methods used for its collection have been outlined in the previous presentations by Dr Freeman. Similarly the presentation of Dr Perry focused on the major analytical findings. Dr Taylor's presentation covered the key findings and recommendations of the Expert Review Panel guiding this review. The major focus of this presentation, from the point of view of a senior manager from a multilateral donor, will describe the use that UNICEF, the World Bank and WHO will be making of the findings of the review and the report of the Expert Review Panel in making policy decisions. However, the details of these policy implications have not been determined at this stage but will be clear by the time of the APHA annual meeting. It is anticipated that the review will have major policy implications relevant to all those interested in child health in developing countries.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to describe the significance of the systematic review for major international health organizations and their work in guiding the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in health.
