165292 Laying the groundwork for undergraduate public health education

Richard K. Riegelman, MD, PhD , Professor and Founding Dean, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services, Washington, DC
Dr. Riegelman will outline the strategies for developmentof undergraduate public health recommended by the Consensus Conference on Undergraduate Pubic Health Education. He will discuss the APTR-AAC&U Faculty Development Program funded by CDC which includes efforts to encourage all colleges and universities to offer "Public Health 101", "Epidemiology 101" as well as "Global Health 101" plus service-learning in public helath and encourage participation of public health practitioners.

Learning Objectives:
* Outline the collabiative relationships and roles of the undergraduate colleges and universities and the Association of Schools of Public Health in this initiative. * Describe the roles that state and local health departments can play in the K-12 education initiatives. * List at least 3 strategies that will be undertaken to develop undergraduate public health education.
