This introduction will provide a brief overview of the regulatory framework established by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA); the relationship between activities under NEPA's jurisdiction and public health; and the legal framework supporting the consideration of public health within the EIS process.

Learning Objectives:
1. Describe NEPA, Executive Order 12989 on Environmental Justice, and other federal environmental laws as they pertain to public health. 2. Recognize strategies for working within the existing federal and state environmental regulatory laws to protect and promote public health
