In a world increasingly torn apart by militarism, racism, massive refugee flows, and human rights violations of all kinds, nurses can no longer responsibly focus solely on individuals—or even local groups—needing their care and concern. The peoples of our planet, as well as the planet itself, are in desperate need of healing

As world citizens, what roles in policy and politics should nurses play at this critical time in world history?

Learning Objectives:
1. Following a brief overview of world realities, participants will identify roles nurses can and should play in both policy and politics. 2. Changes in nursing education needed to prepare nurses as advocates for social justice in the global arena and capable policy analysts and practitioners will be presented. 3. Obstacles to such changes in nursing’ s orientation will also be addressed.
