Learning Objectives: At the end of the session, participants will, at a minimum, be able to:
1. Discuss the importance of establishing and employing valid measurement in epidemiological and public health research.
2. Define the basic psychometric concepts of reliability and validity, especially as they relate to modern measurement.
3. Describe key differences between classical and modern measurement.
4. Recognize and interpret four fundamental item response theory models (IRT) and related concepts.
5. Be an effective and knowledgeable consumer of research employing IRT models.
