E. Richard Brown, PhD , UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, University of California, Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA
The State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), established in 1997, has provided health insurance coverage to an increasing number of children, but its re-authorization in 2007 has been the focus of a major political conflict between the President and strong bi-partisan majorities in both houses of the Congress. This presentation will focus on the status of SCHIP, its scope and funding, and its relationship to health care reform efforts in the states and nationally.

Learning Objectives:
Describe the SCHIP program. Describe what public health workers can do to support its implementation and improvement.
