Much has been in the news in recent years about innovation in the Veterans Affairs Health System and some of the cutting edge health care advances made there. VA nurses with the United American Nurses, AFL-CIO have been on the front-line of developing emerging health information technologies at the VA, from computerized patient record-keeping systems to addressing security issues that arise with the new technologies, and more.

Learning Objectives:
1) Describe and discuss the involvement of front-line Veterans Affairs Medical Center nurses in designing and developing the health information technology system. 2) Describe and discuss the involvement of these nurses in integrating the system with the organization of work. 3) Describe and discuss how the VAMC is addressing security concerns arising from the new technologies.
