The Effectiveness of Regulation of Occupational Safety and Health

This presentation reviews the most recent literature on the effectiveness of enforcement, consultation, and other types of public interventions. The conclusions of this review are less positive than some other recent publications have been. We caution that conclusions about effectiveness need to avoid overgeneralizing. Results appear to differ in different time periods, at different types of businesses, and with different inspection activities.

Learning Objectives:
To understand the effectiveness of OSHA regulations.
