Biographical Sketch:
Mary Beth Love, Ph.D. Dr. Love is Chair and Professor of Health Education at San Francisco State University (SFSU). She received her Doctoral Degree from the School of Public Health at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1987. Department Chair since 1989, Dr. Love has successfully incubated, implemented and institutionalized numerous curricular innovations in her 20 years in higher education administration. She built her department from a small faculty of seven to its current 19 faculty who have emerged as campus leaders in learning-centered curriculum and grant-funded, applied community-based research. Savita Malik, MPH Savita Malik is a doctoral candidate and a faculty member in the SFSU Department of Health Education. As the curriculum and faculty development manager for the Metro Academies Initiative, she serves on the cross-institution leadership team of Metro Academies, working across with SFSU and CCSF. She teaches two of the three courses offered as part of the SFSU Metro sequence. Ms. Malik received her Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California at Berkeley. She holds a Master’s in Public Health from SFSU where she is pursuing a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership. Ms. Malik’s prior work experience includes teaching middle school math, science, reading and health for five years in urban, low-income schools with large numbers of learners for whom English is a second language.
