Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Li Hui Chen is an Injury Epidemiologist in the Office of Analysis at the National Center for Health Statistics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, US Department of Health and Human Services. She provides consultation on the analysis of injury related data to a wide range of constituents from both the public and private sectors. Dr. Chen’s current research focus includes fatal and non-fatal poisoning statistics, disability and injury, developing method to mine literal text written on the death certificate, selecting the main injury from multiple causes of death, developing injury indicators including measures to indicate injury severity. She is the lead author of an injury report documenting changes in the injury section of the NHIS from 1997-2007. This report provides analytic recommendations for combining multiple years of data and combining data collected using different sample designs. This report serves as a reference to guide researchers in moving beyond simple descriptive studies to more sophisticated analysis of the NHIS data. Dr. Chen has been at the National Center for Health Statistics since 2005. Prior to work at National Center for Health Statistics, she was an Assistant Scientist at the Johns Hopkins. She received her doctoral degree from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in 1999.
