Biographical Sketch: Dr. Jurkowski currently works and conducts research within rural communities, and is currently a Professor and Graduate Program Director, within the School of Social Work, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, located in Carbondale, Illinois (downstate from Chicago!). She has had an interest in promoting professional development and helping maintain emotional balance for public health social workers. The topic of today’s presentation is one which evolved following a request to deal with burnout and the social work professional, and has emerged into the study of compassion fatigue, a popular topic for social workers.
